Business is finally booming, and to be honest – its kind of freaking me out! I know you heard the whole spill on how we started in Feb 2015 by digging into out little Misc money jar, grabbed $60.00 bucks out and went to the Good Will to buy items to resell. Than expanded by hitting up local garage sells to buying our very first pallet of goods. From there, less than a year later – we were hitting over $35,000 a month in Sales. How did $60.00 make this happen in less than a year? This is like one of the magical/possibly unbelievable stories you hear on the internet. How did we add this dose of Alchemy to our operation? Did we just get lucky?
It started off with just me and my wife and a little corner in our dinning room where we started placing inventory. Eventually we had so many items in every closet, dinning room, living room and office (well I thought it was a lot, its chicken scratch to where we are at now), we flew my brother in from Michigan to help out. Hes now full time with us in the now “Family Business”. I am still working my 9 to 5 to this day (Mainly because the whole job security, plus it comes with excellent pay and benefits.). I’m not sure if I am ready to officially let it go. When is the right time to let it go? I don’t have all the answers, I don’t want to be one of these fake e-bay/amazon selling Gurus that think they have all the answers, I don’t! I’m just figuring it out as we go. Last year my wife made everything official, took care of all the business paper work, websites etc. to make it official. The bank for the household was always myself (making over 100K a year), but now the business makes that in sales (not profit people) in 3 months! WTF!
We also have so much inventory we can’t even move around in our 5 bedroom 3000 square foot house. Both garages (2 car and 1 car) are full also. It’s time for a WAREHOUSE (Check out my previous post here). To top that off, its too much inventory for the 3 of us to move in a decent time frame (Really the 2 of them [wifey and little brother] since I still have my full-time job, I’m just a part time employee with the business), so now we are flying in my little cousin from Michigan who will be here next week to join the team full time.
I’m really looking forward to the growth and the direction we are going. The Business now has a certain Je Ne Sais Quoi to it ! We got here by working hard! I can’t really even say that, because its been so much fun! I guess that’s when you have officially found your passion! When work is no longer work but more like a walk in the park (or for us, I should say a walk through the inventory!), you have found something you are very passionate about and it can’t possibly fail.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds in the direction we are going, until than – Thanks for tuning in, I’ll keep you posted on the adventures to come!
